This Week’s Notes for August 15th
Weekly calendar for 8-1-10 and prayer list for 8-8-10
Save the Date! Fish Bake 2010!
FOR YOUR CALENDARS: Remember that our services during the summer are at 8 & 9:30 a.m. through the Sunday of Labor Day weekend (this year on Sept. 5th). September 12th we resume our schedule of services at 8 & 10 a.m.
HELP NEEDED!!! Printing & collating the Sunday bulletins! Training is available. The printing is done in the office on Fridays, generally in the morning, but later if that is more convenient. If you can help, you would be sharing the duties with at least two other parishioners, which would mean you would have duty about every two-three weeks. We have one new volunteer already. Thank you! If we can find one more person, printing duties might only be about once a month or so! Please call Phyllis at the office – 860.535.1181, ext. 10.
Your STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE Invites and encourages you to join a growing group of visitors for this year’s EMC. There are sign-up sheets in the back of the church OR call Tom Sanford at 860.535.3399 or Bill Hoffman at 860.536.0594 to volunteer. This is an easy and enjoyable opportunity to get to know others in the congregation and to support this year’s Stewardship Program. We look forward to hearing from you.
CALVARY ORGANISTS –Ralph “Rick” Powers, of Stonington, has been appointed Acting Organist-Choirmaster, beginning in September. Rick has been guest organist at Calvary on several occasions. He has also served at St. John’s, Fisher’s Island, and St. James’, New London. Stephen Anderson of Mystic, who has often been at Calvary as guest organist and choirmaster, will be our summer organist in August (except for Aug. 15 when Rick will join us!) and early September.
RECTOR SEARCH UPDATE: We have received materials from all the candidates and have been meeting 2 times a week to review videos and written material. We also are conducting telephone interviews and identifying those candidates moving on to the next step in the process. It is very exciting, and the responsibility is huge. Our target date for submitting final candidates to the Vestry continues to be about September 17. Please keep us in your prayers.
THIS WEEK FROM THE PAWCATUCK NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER: The Emergency Food Pantry is very low on the following items: sweet cereal (preferred by parents with children), oatmeal (all kinds), canned fruits (all kinds), spaghetti sauce, baked beans, and instant mashed potatoes. They thank alvary for all we do to help them feed our neighbors.
COFFEE HOUR HOSTS are needed. It is an easy ministry to provide a few simple sweets and to make coffee for those wanting to share fellowship and camaraderie after the 10:00 service. If you could do this just once or twice a year, it would be a tremendous help to Calvary. Please sign up on the sign-up sheet posted in the Parish Hall. Your help will be appreciated!
CALVARY CHURCH ALTAR FLOWERS FUND – Altar arrangements in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a special occasion may be sponsored for a donation of $60. Gift forms are available at the back of the church or you may call Phyllis in the office at 535-1181 or Gill Perry at 535-8139. You may also donate a lesser amount of your choosing toward the Calvary Church Altar Flowers Fund. Your gift will be used, together with those of others, on the Sundays when there is no designated gift. The names of donors will appear in the bulletin or you may mark your gift “Anonymous”. Please mark the memo line of your check “Flower Fund” and mail to Calvary Church or place in the alms basin. Should you wish to join the Flower Guild, please do not hesitate to call.
