PARISH DIRECTORY Please sign-up to have your picture taken for the Parish Directory. We need everyone! Families will be taken together so please arrange a time when all will be available. Sign-ups available after church or by contacting Carole Barnard at 860-535-9480 or at barnardmaine@comcast.net. To make our directory a success, we need volunteers to serve as hosts and hostesses for the photography sessions. Please call Anne Kimball at 860-245-3677 or Carole Barnard at 860-535-9480 if you can spare just a few hours of your time to help us get this directory completed. It will be the easiest job you ever had to do! Thank you! Carole Barnard (535-9480) and Anne Kimball (245-3677), Coordinators.

FEED YOUR NEIGHBOR! The summer months are difficult for our local food banks, especially with our current economic environment. Please remember those in need while grocery shopping. Donations can be left in the basket at the back of the church. Thank you!

SUMMER FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCED: The Mystic Area Ecumenical Council’s Summer Film Festival started on Thurs., July 10 and continues on a biweekly basis through Aug. 21. St. James’ Parish presents an ecumenical TAIZÉ PRAYER SERVICE – Step out of the stress of everyday life into a peaceful candlelit church for a period of quiet prayer and reflection on Thurs., Aug. 7, 7 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 95 Route 2A, Preston. Taizé is a service that has readings of lessons and prayers, quiet reflection, and song with soft music on flute and guitar.
A NOTE FROM THE AMERICAN RED CROSS: As we approach the summer, we are asking for support in maintaining our state at an adequate blood supply. The need for blood is constant. Unfortunately, it is a tradition for some blood donors to “take a vacation” from giving the gift of life. To keep our hospitals at a safe inventory, we must collect 650 units of blood each and every day in Connecticut. This poses an issue during the summer months, and we often do not collect the amount of blood we need. If you would like information on blood drives, please contact Matt White at 860-284-7049 or by e-mail at whitemaa@usa.redcross.org.
PLEASE NOTE that the church office will be closed from July 28 until August 11 while Phyllis is on vacation. Volunteers will be in the office from 10 a.m. until noon Monday through Friday to check messages.
