Weekly Calendar & Prayer List for May 31, 2009

NEWS ABOUT OUR PRAYER LIST:  We are trying something new as of June 1.  Each name on our prayer list will remain for one month.  This will enable us to mention each person by first name during the Prayers of the People on Sunday mornings.  By doing this, we hope to make our prayers more meaningful to all.  Those putting a name on the list may, if they wish, call the church office at the end of a month’s time to request that their person be included for another month.  HOW TO REMOVE SOMEONE FROM THE PRAYER LIST AFTER 4 WEEKS OR AT ANY TIME WITHOUT FEELING GUILTY:  When we pray, we put our trust in God.  We know God hears all of our prayers and knows far better than we as to what is best for us.  Therefore, we will hold all up in prayer for 4 weeks and then we hand them off to God.  This does not preclude anyone continuing to pray for whomever they wish.

DON’T MISS THIS SEASON’S FINAL EVENSONG, next Sunday, June 7, at 5 p.m.  The Calvary Singers will lead the worship with a set of Versicles and Responses by Paul Spicer, the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis in D major by Charles Wood, C.V. Stanford’s Justorum animae, the set Psalm of the day and two hymns.  The service will open with the Introit O Holy spirit, Lord of grace by Christopher Tye.  Please join us at this wonderful service of worship and celebration.

The LITURGICAL SCHEDULE of Ushers, Lectors, Ministers of Communion, Acolytes, etc. for July 5 through Sept. 6, will soon be compiled.  If you will be away during those times, please phone Jean McNutt at 860-535-9455 before June 8, and we will do our best to avoid scheduling you at an inconvenient time.

CALLING ALL CASSEROLE MAKERS!  Calvary Parish is re-starting a program to provide wonderful, homemade casseroles for parishioners in need of assistance.  We are looking for volunteers to prepare casseroles which can be divided into 2-portion freezer-proof plastic containers which will be stored in the freezer beneath the Chapel.  Casseroles should be labeled, including main ingredients, date prepared, and cooking time and temperature.  Please sign up in the Parish Hall.  Any questions?  Please call Lois Cole at 860.535.2089.  Thank you!

Our friends at the PAWCATUCK NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER need donations of canned fruit, boxed cereal, jars of jam and jelly, and any other non-perishable food items.  Next time you’re grocery shopping, why not pick up a few extra items and place them in the basket at the back of the church.  Many local families need our help!

MOVIE NIGHT AT CALVARY FOR YOUTH!  Every fourth Saturday of the month (next one is Sat., June 27th) from 7 to 9 p.m.  Please check online calendar for details!

COFFEE HOUR HOSTS are needed.  It is an easy ministry to provide a few simple sweets and to make coffee for those wanting to share fellowship and camaraderie after the 10:00 service.  If you could do this just once or twice a year, it would be a tremendous help to Calvary.  Please sign up on the sign-up sheet posted in the Parish Hall.  Your help will be appreciated!

PARISH HALL KITCHEN:  The kitchen in the Parish Hall is shared space.  Please remember if you use the kitchen for any reason to wash and put away all dishes, clean the counters and island, and don’t leave excess items on the counters.  Let’s all work together to keep OUR kitchen tidy.  THANK YOU!
