PLACEMENT OF FLAGS IN WORSHIP SPACE:  On August 30, during the announcement time, I was asked to make a decision on the placement of the flags in the worship space.  I understand that it is a deep concern for some of our parishioners.  While it is true that I am not your Rector and, therefore, do not have the prerogative to make executive decisions, it is nevertheless my responsibility to ensure that all our members and their concerns receive appropriate pastoral response.  Therefore, I offer myself to listen to all the various perspectives that our parishioners may have on this issue, and I promise that decisions will be made as are fitting to a quality pastoral care of our parish.  Please feel free to arrange a meeting time with me; call me on my cell (860.501.2020); or email me (cecalvchurch@aol.com) your thoughts.  I would love to hear from you so that a decision may be made that is best reflective of a vibrant and caring community that Calvary Church is. Blessings!  The Rev’d Amjad J. Samuel.

PRIOR TO THE ARRIVAL OF AN INTERIM, any questions/concerns regarding finances, buildings & grounds, staff, or any non-liturgical matters should be addressed to Deb Burgess, our Senior Warden.  Any questions/concerns regarding liturgical matters should be addressed to Amjad.

CALLING ALL HAND BELL RINGERS!  Are you just itching to play our Schulmerich Hand Bells? If so, we have just the group for you! Our Hand Bell Choir meets on Wednesday afternoons and we are in need of a couple of ringers. If you are interested in joining, please email Simon at sdalholt@sbcglobal.net or call him at 860-535-3334. If you cannot meet on Wednesdays but have some alternative times, please share those times with him!

Join the Calvary Team for the MYSTIC CROP WALK on Sun., Oct. 18 at 1:00 p.m. (registration) The 10K walk starts at St. Mark’s Church in Mystic and goes to the Noank Baptist Church and back.  Sponsorship money raised by the walkers is used by Church World Service to help alleviate hunger and poverty throughout the world.  Even if you can’t walk, please make a donation to sponsor the team.  To sign up, call Candy Sanford at 860.535.3399.

Our friends at the PAWCATUCK NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER need donations of canned fruit, boxed cereal, jars of jam and jelly, and any other non-perishable food items.  Next time you’re grocery shopping, why not pick up a few extra items and place them in the basket at the back of the church.  Many local families need our help!

COFFEE HOUR HOSTS are needed.  It is an easy ministry to provide a few simple sweets and to make coffee for those wanting to share fellowship and camaraderie after the 10:00 service.  If you could do this just once or twice a year, it would be a tremendous help to Calvary.  Please sign up on the sign-up sheet posted in the Parish Hall.  Your help will be appreciated!

TWO IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

• TODAY  All Parish Meeting to Elect the Search committee at 11:00 in the Parish Hall.
• Oct. 4  “Telling Our Story”, 4-8 p.m. Potluck Dinner.

IN CASE OF A PASTORAL EMERGENCY DURING OUR INTERIM TIME, YOU MAY ALWAYS CALL THE CHURCH AT 860.535.1181 AND LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR PHYLLIS AT EXT. 10, OR YOU MAY PHONE THE REV’D AMJAD SAMUEL AT 860.501.2020.  You may also phone our Sr. Warden, Deb Burgess, at home at 860.535.2236 or on her cell at 860.608.8237.
