Weekly Calendar & Prayer List for January 24, 2010

SEARCH UPDATE: A report of our process and progress up to now can be found in the Annual Report plus a verbal report will be made at today’s Annual Meeting.  The results of the Survey and Focus Groups will be made to the Vestry and Parish very soon.

The LITURGICAL SCHEDULE OF USHERS, LECTORS, MINISTERS OF COMMUNION, ACOLYTES, etc. for March 1st through June, 2010 will soon be compiled.  If you will be away during that time and unavailable to serve, please phone Jean McNutt at 860-535-9455 before Feb. 8, and we will do our best to avoid scheduling you at an inconvenient time.

WARM SHELTER COOKS NEEDED!  Cooks are needed for the WARM Shelter for 2010.  On the third Wed. of every month, Calvary Church provides an evening meal for the WARM Shelter that includes an entrée and salad or vegetable for 50 people and 4 gallons of milk and fruit juice.  You can volunteer to provide all or part of a meal.  You can sign up in the Parish Hall or by calling Candy Sanford at 860-535-3399 or cdsanford@sbcglobal.net.

ECW NO SWEAT YOGA – Elizabeth Johnstone is a certified Yoga teacher who works with the women prisons in Niantic.  She has restarted a Gentle Yoga Class for anyone who would like to attend.  The class is held in the Chapel at 9:30 a.m. on Mondays.  The fee is $10. for one hour, and all proceeds go to the Prison as a part of our Outreach Program, since Elizabeth donates her time.  While Yoga poses are incorporated, it is stretching and gentle movements in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.  We started on Jan. 11.  If you’re interested or have any questions, you can call Julia Stapleton at 860-245-3657, otherwise we hope to see you there!

The PAWCATUCK NEIGHBOORHOOD CENTER needs the following food: soup, peanut butter & jelly, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, canned beans, tuna, juice boxes for children, and brownie mixes.

COFFEE HOUR HOSTS are needed.  It is an easy ministry to provide a few simple sweets and to make coffee for those wanting to share fellowship and camaraderie after the 10:00 service.  If you could do this just once or twice a year, it would be a tremendous help to Calvary.  Please sign up on the sign-up sheet posted in the Parish Hall.  Your help will be appreciated!

CALVARY CHURCH ALTAR FLOWERS FUND – Altar arrangements in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a special occasion may be sponsored for a donation of $60.  Gift forms are available at the back of the church or you may call Phyllis in the office at 535-1181 or Gill Perry at 535-8139.  You may also donate a lesser amount of your choosing toward the Calvary Church Altar Flowers Fund.  Your gift will be used, together with those of others, on the Sundays when there is no designated gift.  The names of donors will appear in the bulletin or you may mark your gift “Anonymous”.  Please mark the memo line of your check “Flower Fund” and mail to Calvary Church or place in the alms basin.  Should you wish to join the Flower Guild, please do not hesitate to call.

AN INVITATION FROM OUR PRAYER GROUP

Our prayer group meets around the altar at Calvary Church on the second and fourth Fridays of the month from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.  We spend time in prayer and time in silence, lifting up those in prayer on our church prayer list and friends and family who are not on our list, as well as other prayer requests. Please join us on the days mentioned whenever you wish to be part of this special time around our altar.  Occasionally there is a change in the schedule so please check with the church office beforehand.  Any questions, please call Joan Wesley at 401-348-2928. Hoping to see you there.  All are welcome!
