CALVARY ORGANISTS: Simon Holt’s concluding Sunday at Calvary will be Sunday, July 25, during which day we will celebrate his much admired music and service to this community. Ralph “Rick” Powers, of Stonington, has been appointed Acting Organist-Choirmaster, beginning in September. Rick has been guest organist at Calvary on several occasions. He has also served at St. John’s, Fishers Island, and St. James, New London. Stephen Anderson, of Mystic, who has often been at Calvary as guest organist and choirmaster, will be our summer organist in August and early September.
SEARCH UPDATE: Our Parish Profile has been approved by the diocese and should be on our website at this time. That means names are being accepted by the diocese for the position of Calvary Church Rector!!! Anyone who would like to suggest a candidate for the position should have that person visit the Diocese of Connecticut website at www.ctdiocese.org., click on the Bishop Staff, then click on Transition Ministry for application details. We are on our way so please continue to keep us in your prayers.
CNS IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS for the assistant teacher position starting in September. Do you know someone who might be interested in joining our talented staff? Resumes can be sent directly to Calvary Nursery School.
The LITURGICAL SCHEDULE of ushers, lectors, Ministers of Communion, acolytes, etc.for July 1 through Labor Day weekend, September 6, will soon be compiled. If you will be away during that time and unavailable to serve, please phone jean McNutt at 860.535.9455 before June 7, and we will do our best to avoid scheduling you at an inconvenient time.
SAVE THE DATE: Friday, June 25, 6-8:00 p.m., Chicken BBQ and all the Fixins to benefit the Uganda Mission Programs. Advanced sale tickets will begin on Sunday, June 6 after both services.
CALLING ALL COOKS! The Pastoral Care and Prayer Committee provides casseroles and soups to parishioners who are temporarily homebound. Recipients always enjoy having a homemade soup or casserole delivered to their home. Please contact Lois Cole at 860.535.2089 for information. Thank you!
BARNABA INSTITUTE PRESENTATION: The Barnaba Institute will be making a presentation during the May Deanery Meeting at St. John’s, Niantic on Tues., May 25. The Barnaba Institute is a non-profit organization located in Clinton, which raises awareness through education and media about human trafficking as it pertains to sexual exploitation. They currently run an outreach program to females in New London. The business meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., and the presentation is expected to begin at 7 p.m. All are invited.
COOKS ARE NEEDED FOR THE WARM SHELTER. On the third Wed. of every month, Calvary Church provides an evening meal for the WARM Shelter that includes an entrée and salad or vegetable for 50 people and 4 gallons of milk and fruit juice. You can volunteer to provide all or part of a meal. You can sign up in the Parish Hall or by contacting Candy Sanford at 860.535.3399 or at cdsanford@sbcglobal.net.
PAWCATUCK NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER’S EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY NEEDS: grape jelly and jam, white rice, stuffing, all kinds of canned fruit, and all kinds of cereal (i.e. cereal straws for children, dinosaur oatmeal, Rice Krispies, Cheerios, Corn Flakes.
COFFEE HOUR HOSTS are needed. It is an easy ministry to provide a few simple sweets and to make coffee for those wanting to share fellowship and camaraderie after the 10:00 service. If you could do this just once or twice a year, it would be a tremendous help to Calvary. Please sign up on the sign-up sheet posted in the Parish Hall. Your help will be appreciated!
CALVARY CHURCH ALTAR FLOWERS FUND – Altar arrangements in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a special occasion may be sponsored for a donation of $60. Gift forms are available at the back of the church or you may call Phyllis in the office at 535-1181 or Gill Perry at 535-8139. You may also donate a lesser amount of your choosing toward the Calvary Church Altar Flowers Fund. Your gift will be used, together with those of others, on the Sundays when there is no designated gift. The names of donors will appear in the bulletin or you may mark your gift “Anonymous”. Please mark the memo line of your check “Flower Fund” and mail to Calvary Church or place in the alms basin. Should you wish to join the Flower Guild, please do not hesitate to call.
