Weekly Calendar & Prayer List for Sunday, June 20

FOR YOUR CALENDARS:  Remember that our services go to our summer schedule beginning on July 4 and ending with the Sunday of Labor Day weekend (this year on Sept. 5th) – services will be at 8 & 9:30 a.m..  September 12th we resume our schedule of services at 8 & 10 a.m.

RECTOR SEARCH UPDATE: The Profile is complete and on our website.  Names of potential candidates are now being accepted at the diocese.  The deadline for submitting names is June 30.  You may submit names to our Search Committee or have the candidates visit the Diocese of CT website at http://ctdiocese.org., click on Bishop Staff, then click on Transition Ministry for application details.  We will receive our list of candidates on July 8.  We anticipate a very busy summer!

END LOCAL CHILDHOOD HUNGER – The Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center and The Resident are working together to collect $5.00 from 1,000 people by the end of June to provide 21 meals per week for less fortunate children in Stonington and North Stonington during the summer months when children are not eligible for ‘Free and Reduced Lunch’.  If you would like to contribute to this worthwhile program, a box is in the back of the church.  Questions?  Contact Deb Burgess at 860.535.2236 or at debbgs@gmail.com.

BASKET RAFFLE AT THE CHICKEN BBQ next Friday, June 25, 6-8:00 p.m.: Chicken BBQ and all the Fixin’s.  Filled baskets to add to the Basket Raffle are needed.  If you would like to contribute a theme basket for either children or adults, it would be greatly appreciated.  All funds raised support our mission work at the CHAIN Foundation Orphanage.  A sign-up sheet is in the Parish Hall or contact Barbara Loftus or Mary Hughes for more details. Advanced sale tickets begin today, after both services.

CALVARY ORGANISTS – Simon Holt’s concluding Sunday at Calvary will be July 25, when we will celebrate his much-admired music and service to this community.  Ralph “Rick” Powers, of Stonington, has been appointed Acting Organist-Choirmaster, beginning in September.  Rick has been guest organist at Calvary on several occasions.  He has also served at St. John’s, Fisher’s Island, and St. James’, New London.

JUNE IS OFFICALLY “LOCAL HUNGER AWARENESS MONTH”.  During the summer months, food insecurity among school-age children spikes dramatically.  The Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center’s Weekender Backpack Food Program for Children (an official program of the CT. Food Bank) will see an increase in families needing help to feed their children 21 meals per week, not 5.  We will be conducting a food drive at local grocery stores (to be determined) during the summer to help with this.  In the meantime, these are the items that are NOT on our shelves today:  Clam Chowder (most requested by a landslide!), Chicken broth and beef broth, Ramen Noodles, baked beans, Spam (very popular), Chef-Boy-R-Dee, Grape jelly, canned fruit (pineapple (most popular), peaches, pears, fruit cocktail, and cereals (this is often a meal) – corn flakes, shredded wheat, sweet cereals (Cocoa Pops, Honey Nut Cheeries, etc.), oatmeal, and packages of Dinosaur Oatmeal for Children.  Thank you for all you do to help Feed Your Neieghbor.

COFFEE HOUR HOSTS are needed.  It is an easy ministry to provide a few simple sweets and to make coffee for those wanting to share fellowship and camaraderie after the 10:00 service.  If you could do this just once or twice a year, it would be a tremendous help to Calvary.  Please sign up on the sign-up sheet posted in the Parish Hall.  Your help will be appreciated!

CALVARY CHURCH ALTAR FLOWERS FUND – Altar arrangements in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a special occasion may be sponsored for a donation of $60.  Gift forms are available at the back of the church or you may call Phyllis in the office at 535-1181 or Gill Perry at 535-8139.  You may also donate a lesser amount of your choosing toward the Calvary Church Altar Flowers Fund.  Your gift will be used, together with those of others, on the Sundays when there is no designated gift.  The names of donors will appear in the bulletin or you may mark your gift “Anonymous”.  Please mark the memo line of your check “Flower Fund” and mail to Calvary Church or place in the alms basin.  Should you wish to join the Flower Guild, please do not hesitate to call.
